When I was in school , every time there was a Bandh, I used to be so happy as I didn't have to go to school. Having grown up and seen what is the impact of a Bandh, I feel really bad for all of us .
When there is a Bandh everyone loses . It does not matter who sponsors it, it is a big drain on the economy of that state/region. If for a day the banks don't function, Govt. loses 1000s of crores , state transports lose money, individual traders have to close shops, disrupts kids education etc.
I have live in the US for 7 years now and have not seen a day in which they had a 'Bandh' . Why do I not see it here ? First , people are better educated and understand the impact of 'Bandh' on the economy. A politician, dare not call for a Boycott/bandh as the next time he will not get elected. Politicians are thus force to work with opponents to sort things out within the 4 walls. Second, Media acts as a watch dog and helps in the resolution process by conducting public debates and making sure politicians are under check.
We need to start holding politicians accountable for such disruptions and media should help people keep politicians in check . This will help save a lot of tax money.
